9,000 Pounds Later: Why Chicken Wings Are the Unsung Heroes of the Super Bowl

Unlike most places, we keep it simple and consistent: jumbo, fresh, never-frozen wings fried to order, plus scratch-made ranch and bleu cheese (made in-house, daily). That mix of quality and care is what people come back for—and we’re genuinely grateful for it.
In 2025, our community helped us sell 9,120 pounds of chicken wings. That number still kind of blows us away, not because we think we’re special, but because it represents a whole lot of family dinners, friend meetups, post-game hangs, and takeout nights you trusted us with. So thank you. Seriously.
And with the Super Bowl coming up, it feels like the right time to say it out loud: wings aren’t just game-day food. They’re the unsung heroes of the Super Bowl.
Why Wings Won the Super Bowl (Long Before Kickoff)
Americans are projected to devour 1.47 billion chicken wings during Super Bowl LIX. That’s “billion” with a B. If you laid those wings end-to-end, they’d circle the Earth more than three times.
So how did wings become the go-to game day move?
A big part of it goes back to the 1980s, when chicken breasts became the thing everyone wanted. Wings were cheaper and easier for restaurants to buy and cook in volume, and they paired naturally with beer and big games. As sports bars grew, wings fit the moment: shareable, affordable, and perfect for a crowd.
Today, wings account for about 7% of annual chicken wing sales on Super Bowl weekend alone. They’re still one of the most-loved foods on the menu for a reason.
How We Keep Our Wings Consistent (Because You Deserve That)
We’re careful about how we do wings—not because it’s flashy, but because it’s what we’d want served to our own friends and family.

Jumbo wings. We use jumbo wings because they’re more satisfying and hold up better whether you’re dining in or taking them home.
Fresh, never frozen. We keep our wing supply moving so we can serve them fresh (and not pulled from a freezer after months).
Fried to order. When you order, we drop them then. That’s how we keep that crisp outside and juicy inside—no shortcuts, no sitting around.
The Sweet House Sauce (Frank’s-Based, Clancy-Style)
Our house sauce starts with a Frank’s RedHot base, then we add a little something sweet. What is it exactly? That part stays a Clancy family secret.
What we can say is this: it’s spicy, tangy, and just a touch sweet—built to work with fried wings without covering up the flavor.

Want options? We’ve got you:
Tossed in BBQ: Sweet, smoky, and easygoing
Tossed in Frank’s only: Straight heat, no sweetness
Tossed in our dry rub: Big flavor, less mess
Completely dry: Just crisp, seasoned wings
The Dip Matters (And We Don’t Phone It In)
If you’re a dip person, this part’s for you.
We make our ranch and bleu cheese from scratch (in-house, every day). Fresh buttermilk, real herbs, and actual bleu cheese crumbles—because wings deserve the real deal, not something poured out of a bottle.
How to Order Wings (Fastest Options Included)
Feeding yourself, the family, or the whole watch party? We’ll make it easy.
Regular orders come in 10, 20, or 40 wings.
Party pans (great for Super Bowl Sunday) come in:
Half pan: 40 wings
Full pan: 80 wings
(Party pans come with your choice of our scratch-made ranch or bleu cheese.)

Order any of these ways:

Important Super Bowl note: If you want party pans, please place your order by Thursday before the Super Bowl at 4:00 PM. After that, we can’t promise we’ll be able to keep up with demand (we’ll do our best, we just don’t want to overpromise).
The Big Option: Come Watch at the Pub
If you’d rather not juggle timing, warmers, and cleanup at home, we’d love to have you here.
We’re hosting a Super Bowl party at the pub, and it’s going to be especially meaningful for us because it’s the last Sunday we’re open. We’re opening at 11:00 AM and staying open until the game ends.
You’ll get made-to-order wings, cold drinks, big screens, and that “we’re all in this together” energy that only happens when the whole room is watching the same game.
One more important reason to come in: it’s Mike’s last shift with us. If Mike has ever taken care of you, you already know—he’s been a huge part of our Clancy’s family. We’d love for you to stop by, say goodbye, and help us send him off the right way.

The Bottom Line
We’re proud of how we do wings—jumbo, fresh, never-frozen, and fried to order, with scratch-made ranch and bleu cheese, plus our sweet Frank’s-based house sauce that’s been part of Clancy’s for a long time. But more than anything, we’re thankful you’ve made Clancy’s part of your traditions. Selling 9,120 pounds of wings last year only happened because you showed up, ordered, and brought your people with you.
If you’re ordering for Super Bowl, remember: party pans need to be ordered by Thursday at 4:00 PM (so we can plan and serve everyone as smoothly as possible).
And if you want to make it easy on yourself, come watch with us—we’re open 11:00 AM until the game ends, it’s our last Sunday open, and it’s Mike’s last shift.
